Concrete elements such as canopies and blocks have been developed for the construction of fences. However, this is not their only use. Due to their appearance and dimensions, they can also be used as decorative elements in the garden or to supplement an independent structure. The multitude of ideas and arrangements depends only on our imagination. In this article, we will present some unusual solutions that can easily be used and reproduced in your own garden.

Retaining walls

Decorative retaining walls are by far one of the most common non-standard uses of fence blocks. This is not surprising, as the concrete elements in this edition look truly phenomenal.

Walls made in this way can be used both as a stylish finishing touch to garden spaces and to protect slopes and earthen borders.

When using concrete blocks for the construction of retaining walls, special attention should be paid to ensure that they are adequately insulated from moisture and organic dirt, such as mosses and lichens. The surface of the wall, which will be backfilled with soil, should be protected with waterproofing materials such as bituminous coatings, felt, PVC films or EPDM membranes. It is important to choose the right material according to the conditions of the area.

The use of drainage systems can also help against the effects of moisture. These will drain the water from the area around the retaining wall, preventing it from pooling. Here, a drainage system, similar to the one used for concrete fences, will be a good solution.

It is a good idea to impregnate the exposed layer of blocks. This will increase the lifespan of the structure and make it significantly easier to clean. Proven JONIEC® impregnates can be used for this purpose.

KOMBO® elements, a multitude of design ideas.

KOMBO® concrete elements can become part of many interesting and unique arrangements. Their shapes and sizes allow them to be combined in many ways, giving the structure an extremely effective and modern look. The concrete elements are perfect for creating unusual architectural solutions, such as balcony or terrace railings, wall inserts, walls and borders.

Spans created from KOMBO® concrete elements have many advantages:

- reliability, stability and long life: concrete is the most durable and versatile building material;
- simplicity of construction: the assembly of the elements can be undertaken by anyone with a bit of talent for repair and construction work;
- optimum installation costs (if professionals are hired);
- variety of original solutions: KOMBO® elements can be used not only to create modern openwork fences, but also balustrades, walls, railings, etc;
- the original appearance of the concrete shapes, which blends in perfectly with other materials used in landscaping.

The KOMBO® system consists of three elements at base: SEA, TIDE and SHADES.

The elements vary in length, but can be combined to create various and unique compositions, both in horizontal and vertical patterns. This allows many combinations to be created, giving the structure its individual character. The KOMBO® system also includes a canopy in its range of products, which can be installed after the completion of the SEA and TIDE elements. In addition to its aesthetic function, the canopy also acts as a stabiliser for the infill structure.

All three elements are available in the shades grey, graphite and white.

Utility spaces

Utility spaces, separated by blocks, can serve us in many practical ways. The most common of these are the construction of rubbish bins and household storerooms.

By using decorative concrete elements, the separated areas look aesthetically pleasing and are consistent with the rest of the surroundings. They can easily be woven into the course of a fence or combined with any other element made of blocks.

Sheds and gazebos

When observing backyard spaces in our neighbourhood, we can increasingly come across sheds and gazebos, made of concrete blocks. Such structures, apart from their striking appearance, also have a very practical use. Sheds allow us to safely store many garden accessories and vehicles, which are protected against rain, snow or hail, for example. A gazebo, on the other hand, serves as both a recreation and relaxation area for users of the plot.

When erecting structures such as gazebos and sheds from blocks, it is worth consulting a technologist or designer. These will be usable spaces where the safety and stability of the structure must be put first.

Decorative planters and pots

Fence blocks, thanks to their pre-made chambers, are ideal as gazebos and planters. In addition, thanks to their strength and dimensionality, this solution can be combined with the fence itself or with elements of domestic architecture.

All the above examples are just a small part of the uses of fence blocks. With their use, a domestic space can be a place where we literally pour out our creativity. This results in many unique and beautiful solutions, which often become an inspiration for others. Don't be afraid to experiment and bring your ideas to life!
